The mononuclear phagocyte system of the mouse defined by immunohistochemical localization of antigen F4/80: macrophages of bone and associated connective tissue.

چکیده
The macrophage-specific antigen F4/80 has been localized in adult mouse bone and connective tissue. F4/80 positive cells form the centre of haemopoietic islands, line the periosteal and subendosteal bone surfaces and are a major component of connective tissue and the synovial membrane (presumptive type A cells). F4/80 is absent from fibroblasts, chondrocytes, osteoblasts, osteocytes, osteoclasts and a subpopulation of synovial lining cells (presumptive type B cells).

Mononuclear phagocyte system of the mouse defined by immunohistochemical localization of antigen F4/80. Identification of resident macrophages in renal medullary and cortical interstitium and the juxtaglomerular complex
Macrophages have been identified in mouse kidney by immunohistochemical localization of the macrophage-specific antigen F4/80. They constitute the majority of the renal medullary interstitial cell population and are also found in contact with cortical distal and proximal tubules and Bowman's capsule. They are a physical component of the juxtaglomerular complex.
متن کاملThe mononuclear phagocyte system of the mouse defined by immunohistochemical localization of antigen F4/80. Relationship between macrophages, Langerhans cells, reticular cells, and dendritic cells in lymphoid and hematopoietic organs
The macrophage-specific antigen F4/80 has been localized in mouse lymphoid and hematopoietic tissue and skin using immunoperoxidase staining. The antigen permits identification of early mononuclear phagocyte precursors in the bone marrow, and is present also on larger cells forming the center of hematopoietic islands and lining vascular sinuses. In thymus F4/80+ cells are numerous in both corte...
متن کاملQuantitative analysis of total macrophage content in adult mouse tissues. Immunochemical studies with monoclonal antibody F4/80
We have estimated the macrophage content of different tissues of the normal adult mouse using F4/80, a highly specific antigen marker for mature mouse macrophages. An absorption indirect binding assay was used to quantitate F4/80 antigen against a calibration standard made from the J774.2 macrophage-like cell line. The richest sources of tissue F4/80 antigen were found to be bone marrow, spleen...
متن کاملRAPID COMMUNICATIONS Immunohistochemical Localization of a Macrophage-specific Antigen in Developing Mouse Retina: Phagocytosis of Dying Neurons and Differentiation of Microglial Cells to Form a Regular Array in the Plexiform Layers
In the developing mouse retina degenerating neurons can be observed initially in the ganglion cell layer followed by a phase of cell death in the inner nuclear layer. Using an immunohistochemical method to localize the mouse macrophage specific antigen F4/80, we show that macrophages migrate from the vascular supply overlying the developing retina and phagocytose the degenerating neurons. The m...
متن کاملThe mononuclear phagocyte system revisited.
The mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS) was defined as a family of cells comprising bone marrow progenitors, blood monocytes, and tissue macrophages. In this review, we briefly consider markers for cells of this lineage in the mouse, especially the F4/80 surface antigen and the receptor for macrophage colony-stimulating factor. The concept of the MPS is challenged by evidence that there is a sep...
